First iraq fighters from the Islamic State of iraq and levant are making gains in anbar province. I. S. I. L. Forces captured a village 12km west of ramadi. It is crucial for iraqi forces, the biggest province, sharing borders with syria, jordan, saudi arabia. Lets go to jane arraf, joining us from the capital baghdad. What can you tell us about i. S. I. L. s advance in anbar . Well, elizabeth, its an indication of how crucial anbar is, not some because its iraqs biggest province, but because that is where theres a key fight going on within iraq and with iraqs allies, to get iraqi tribes on board. What we are seeing is fighting and i. S. I. L. Gains in places where tribes turned against i. S. I. L. , and they are fighting to throw them out of territory there. That was the case in the village to the west of ramadi, and it was a case in heet where i. S. I. L. Took over several villages. We learnt of suicide car bombs in the city of haditha not far from the syrian border. And the Iraqi Government announced that the governor of anbar, wounded by shrapnel and recovering in germany has been relieved. Theyll choose a new governor there. Officials are calling for help, saying they are not getting weapons or ammunition, and they would put up with American Forces on the ground. Its not likely to happen, but its a sign of desperation. Jane, this comes days after the u. S. Of chuck hagel, the defense secretary in iraq, and the Iraqi Government asking the u. S. For more assistance. Are they likely to get it . They are likely to get it. As you know, this is a complicated fight that fragmented the country. This is a day when we see millions of people congregate in kabula, at a time when we are likely to see attacks on the shia visitors there by i. S. I. L. Its been quiet. Iraqi forces along with shia militias managed to make gains on the outskirts of baghdad. They have not been able to do that in anbar. This is the problem. Anbar is tribal, its sunni, and this is something that the americans are trying to figure out with the government. How do you harness the power of the tribes, who are not willing to fight with iraqi force, who do not trust the Iraqi Government, and are crucial in the fight against i. S. I. L. That is a work in progress. Thank you very much for that. Thats our correspondent jane arraf joining us from the iraqi capital baghdad. And the council wants guarantees. There are many front lines in syria. Why does the United Nations want to start its socalled freeze plan in aleppo city. The International Organization says it believes the city faces a threat from the Islamic State of iraq and levant. In an agreement between the government and the opposition, it could prevent an i. S. The idea is pervasive in place departments across the country. Its getting worse in not better because white supremists has not been challenged. Reporter today, the out break of Police Brutality marks a new chapter in protest. The fact that protests have been sustained for three months, i argue we havent seep this protest in young black and brown folks since the Antiapartheid Movement in the 1980s. The first black president spoke about those that lost his way in pushing for change. Legitimate grievances against Police Brutality tipped in the excuse making for criminal behaviour. Racial politics could cut both ways. President obamas comments a warning that backlash could confront. Theres a Sharp Division between whites and blacks over the recent cases of police inflicted deaths. Its that disparity that the protesters have begun to reckon w tim is an american racism act visit and writer, and says there need to be more act ability in the police for. I think theyll continue in some way, shape or form until we see real measures of accountability imposed upon local police departments. If we dont see the changes, and everything from turning these kind of cases over to special prosecutors, rather than relying on local das to prosecute the cops. If we dont see that or see a move to diplomatic control over who polices in marginalized community of colour, would have the ability to say who will police, be promoted, fired and hired. If we dont move in that direction, i think well see continued unrest. Well need to see real reform before the protesters stop protests against police force brought a new focus to Race Relations and the u. S. Its part of a Movement Black lives matter. Here is a story. Hi, im alicia. And im one of the cocreators of black lives matter. Black lives matter was start as a combination on facebook between myself and the colours, and we were responding to the grief and the rage and the frustration of George Zimmerman being acquitted of the murder of trayvon martin. We brought people together to strategise. People are coming together to demand transformation. What feels incredible is theres a new convening and coalescing of young people and elders united in our quest to live in safe and healthy communities, to live in communities that are not militarized and to be better in the way that we lived together. When i saw black lives matter in ferguson, it felt like an honour, like a reflection of the relationships that we had built, and it felt authentic. And it felt like it was bigger than us. And that it was a real battle cry. And people in ferguson were fighting for their lives. Black people everywhere fighting for their lives. When i see signs like i cant breathe and hands up dont shoot in addition to hands up dont matter, it feels like a reminder that we have a lot of work to do to make sure black lives are valued in this country. This moment feels different to me because weve had some experience now. There has been a lot of really powerful work that has been happening for a long time that brought us to this moment. This is not the first time that people responded to Police Brutality. We say that ferguson is everywhere. What i see from the Movement Moving forward is it gets larger and larger. Im in agreement with a report that has created hope for the country. Well work to put it into effect as soon as possible. For the many protesters in the street, this is not enough. We are carrying this to symbolize what we are going through with the martelly administration. No one can save him. Not john kerry or president obama. That means its over. Mitchell martelly rode a waive of popularity among the young to win the election in 2011. He took office one year after the earthquake, killing tens of thousands, leaving many destitute. As a candidate he promised reformist policies and said his government would build houses for those left homeless by the quake. That optimism has gone. In 2011, martelly failed to stage municipal elections and elections for the senate. By next month the electoral terms of both houses of parliament will be over. Why do you think the conservative in other parties has not done that, has not put up a candidate. Is it because the president is their man. I think because of two reasons. First thing is that there is a difference between the leaders and other less important leaders, and appearance of another, who dont support the party. And the second thing, doesnt like to be positioned, but likes to be in the middle between both candidates, and to show that it is a bit neutral. The boats competed in singapore, before coming here as the last ways of the series, sydneys points count double. All the podium positions are in place. Its not plain sailing for anyone that looks like a lot of fun. Thats all the sport for now. Now, solar power is the worlds Fastest Growing source of renewable energy. The plans to harness the power of sun and converting it is on rooftops. A town in netherlands blit the supply into the ground. Technology editor explains. They may not know it. People in the small touch up to are riding over a projected that has the participation to change the way we build roads and generate electricity. From a stretch of the bike paths, it doesnt look like anything out of the ordinary. Under the hardened glass you see the solar panels, on a fine day, a stretch like this, 70 meters long produces electricity to power three homes. Reporter the project took solar panels, sandwiching them between glass, sill cone rubber and concrete. This, half a fire brigade truck, it can take, without damage. We were working on panels for big buses and large vehicles in the long run. The panels are connected to smart meters, which optimize the output and feeding electricity to Street Lighting vehicles or the grid. Research groups spent the last five years developing the technology, creating slabs suitable for paving, dirt repellant and tough enough to endure harsh conditions. We made a set of coatings, robust enough to deal with traffic loads and also give traction to the vehicles passing by, especially for the bicycles, and also transfer as much light as possible on to the solar cells, so they condition do the work. Another project in the netherlands has been exploring alternative roading surfaces. A tribute to the bank of van cough. Its lit up by glow in the dark technology. Rather than focussing on beauty, the team is hoping the economist of their product will be the selling point. Reporter well solar panels on roofs are designed or have a lifetime of 2025 years. This is the lifetime that we want to have for these slabs much if you have a payback time of 50 years, you have some payback of the road itself. That makes the roads cheaper in the end. The team are working to refine the technology, but say within five years they hope to offer a green and Cost Effective road surface. They say could pave the future thats it from me, and the entire team. Thank you for watching.
