That set off one of the most sensational trials in u. S. History, how the a. J. Simpson murder case has impacted society and the Justice System. This is the back of it. Its only what, four feet . Funs facing off with an Adult Entertainment complex behind their convent. Welcome to al jazeera america. Alqaeda inspired fighters continue their sweep three iraq, its goal to topple the shia led government and return the country to sunni rule. Iraqed second largest city has been taken and several cities close to baghdad. The army is sending troops there to stave off an impending attack on the capitol. The crisis in iraq set off a political fire storm in washington as the white house contemplates military strikes. Lets go to washington now. The pressure really seems to be mound r. Mounting very quickly on president obama to respond in some way to this insurgency from isil. Its a measure of how dire this situation has come. President obama who has spent the better part of three years touting his policy as success is now talking about military action. Having left iraq two and a half years ago, president obama is weighing going back in. In our consultations with the iraqis, there will be some short term immediate things that need to be done militarily, and our National Security team is looking at all the options. Those options do not include american boots on the ground, but the u. S. Is considering air strikes and the us of drones against fighters of the Islamic State in iraq. In a matter of days isil captured a third of the country and are now moving from the capitol. They are 100 miles from baghdad and what is the president doing . Thanking a nap. Some here in washington are calling for action now. There is no scenario where we can stop the bleeding in iraq without american air power. The iraqi army is on the verge of collapse. I would urge the administration to get all of our people out now. This video was released purportedly showing iraqi soldiers surrendering and showing American Military in the isils happened. I dont rule out anything, because we do have a stake in making sure that these jihadists are not getting a permanent foot hold in either iraq or syria, for that matter. With the u. S. Mission in iraq wrapped up in 2011 and the absence of a Security Agreement that would have seen some americans staying behind in a Counter Terror role be, some oh so you this coming. Because the president of the United States declares a conflict over does not mean in the eyes of the enemys its over. Conflicts end with the enemy is defeated. The iraq war did not end because the forces against iraq were and within iraq were still undefeated. As the country splinters apart, a humanitarian crisis is brewing with hundreds of thousands of civilians fleeing cities like mosul, heading north to kurdistan to escape the violence. Many lawmakers now are looking at the situation in iraq and saying wait a minute, in afghanistan, the president said all troops have to be out by 2016. They think that he should now reconsider that deadline and one very important note, we have learned that have that biden is making calls to key lawmakers on capitol hill as the situation is more dire and air strikes are considered against isil. All eye is have been on the u. S. On president obama. We have heard from him. What is the u. S. Doing to push some of this back, to put the onus back on the iraqi Prime Minister, on almalaki. It might be too late at this point when you look at the point that joe biden, for example, way back three years ago said the solution may be to petition iraq into three parts. Thats practically whats happening at this point before our very eyes. President obama and the rest of the administration putting pressure on almalaki, the Prime Minister of iraq to come to conciliation with sunni factions. They partly put the blame at his feet. Mike viqueira reporting from washington, thank you. Mounting concern isils concern could disrupt oil supplies. U. S. Crude prices jumped to a nine month high thursday. As of now, iraq produces over 3 millionbarrels of oil a day, second only to saudi arabia, but the u. S. Is relying less on imports from iraq. It imported 341,000barrels from iraq last year. That only represents less than 4 of the total crude oil import. Hillary clinton is concerned about the current upheaval in iraq. Speaking at the council on Foreign Relations thursday in new york, she is surprised by the effectiveness of isil and how easily they created turmoil in the region. This is not just a syrian problem anymore. I never thought it was just a syrian problem. I thought it was a regional problem. I could not have predicted the extent to which isis could be effective in erasing boundaries to create an Islamic State. Her memoir is seen by many as a springboard for another president ial run. Stay with aljazeera for the continuing coverage of turmoil in iraq. Coming up, a retired general talks about the military options that are on the table for the u. S. Former prisoner of war Bowe Bergdahl is back in the u. S. A. , continuing his recovery in san antonio after leaving germany on thursday. A pentagon spokesman said the militarys First Priority is making sure that he continues to get the care and support he needs. Lisa stark is in washington. Lisa, what that is next with Sergeant Bergdahl . John henry, this is sort of the third and final phase of the reintegration process. It could be a lengthy one. He will get more medical attention at the hospital if he needs it and a lot of psychological work. The idea is to move him from the mentality of a prisoner to that sort of free man to try to get him back to normal as possible. We spoke with former Army Psychiatrist dr. Richy about what that entails. Physical exam, what kind of injuries you have, what kind of wounds you have. Psychological, your state of mind. Post Traumatic Stress disorder. Theres also the intelligence piece of it, because the people who debrief you are going to want to know what you saw, who you were friendly with, what information did you have, what you might have shared that you shouldnt have shared. Also, while at the hospital is expected at some point bergdahl will reunify with his family, see them for the first time. This is apparently done carefully. It can be quite emotional and traumatic to have that reunion. As of now, do we have a time frame for Sergeant Bergdahls recovery . We dont. Im told it could take months. It depends on that how he progresses. It could be a very tough case for him because hes been held for so long and also because of the controversy about how he may have been captured, so it could be a lengthy process. Lets talk about that controversy. Some of bergdahls fellow soldiers say hes a deserter and the deal that brought him home has been attacked by some members of congress. Do we know when hell be ready to answer questions about his disappearance. The military, the top brass has made it clear that he will be asked about the circumstances of his disappearance and his capture, but note the statement that they made about their main concern. It is his care, his support, so i think that, the questions about how he was captured will be on the back burner, but they will definitely come up. Sergeant bergdahls return is sparking questions about back pay. After almost five years as a prisoner, the army could owe him as much as 300,000 in salary. Army Officials Say he could receive another 300,000 in prisoner of war pay. Before he gets any money, the army must first investigate the circumstances that led to his capture by the taliban in afghanistan. Malaysia airlines has been beginning to send compensation to the missing passengers of the flight 370. Relatives can claim up to 75,000. Insurers are in talks with 40 or more chinese families. There are reports several tanks have crossed frock russia into eastern ukraine. This video cannot be independently verified but ukrainian Officials Say it shows one of the vehicles rolling in. Ukraines new president called Vladimir Putin and told him this is unacceptable. Russia denied the reports. Ukraine officials accused moscow of aiding the rebels and instigating the violence. Russia has also denied those allegations. Tight security is in place across afghanistan ahead of saturdays president ial runoff election. The former foreign minister is expected to defeat his opponent. Authorities are worried that a recent increase in taliban attacks could affect voter turnout. The only way in or out of the capitol city of the province is through check points like this one, operated by the Afghan National police. All vehicles are searched a understand so are the passengers. Its part of increased security ahead of saturdays president ial runoff. The taliban has promised to attack polling stations on voting day and this area is particularly at risk. Although its less than an hour from kabul, the armed group has brought influence here. The colonel is in charge of the forces responsible for keeping voters safe. He tells us hes confident the poll will be held without incident. Our enemy wants to create disruption but we are prepared for it. With over 2,000 polling stations to secure, it wont be an easy job. Afghan Security Forces did well, voters came out in record numbers. In the past few weeks, theres been a sharp increase in taliban violence and that has many concerned the runoff will look very different. Last month, the taliban launched its socalled spring offensive. Since then, there have been a series of attacks across the country, including an assassination attempt against one of the president ial candidates. Food vendor says the threat of violence wont stop him from voting, although hes noticed fewer people on the streets in the days leading up to the runoff, he wants to cast his ballot for change. The security situation here isnt very good, but im definitely voting. I want peace. I dont want war anymore. God willing, the new government will bring afghanistan peace. A severe thunderstorm slammed into abilene, texas and brought more than just pounding rain and high winds. Look at this. [ banging ] what you hear there is hail, but its the size of softballs. It damaged cars and buildings across the city. Six people attending a downtown Arts Festival suffered minor injuries. You get in the way that have, its going to hurt. Is it just me or have there been more softball sized hails as of late . Thats what we do in texas. Weve had a busy spring, our Severe Weather system. Everything is bigger in texas, right . That sound you heard, it can be heard in the skies over 60 miles an hour. You dont want that coming at your head. There are reports of places it covered the ground, even a Police Cruiser injured. I guess its equal opportunity at least. I didnt even know we had the video of that. As we were continuing out today, we have more of those chances. This is a storm then that brought it through. We have an area brewing in the midsection want country, the Southern Plains and Northern Plains two areas of slight risk and slightly elevated risk, more of a risk tomorrow. In the meantime, ahead of that, that other system weve been following, a lot of rain today in portions of the northeast, thunderstorms possible into the afternoon hours. It is maybe the day to get all that indoor stuff done before the weekend starts to clear out, so i guess in time for the weekend, its nicer, thats a ray of sunshine for all of this. Some places could get one or two inches of rain if you get under the heavier bands. That is that system. As this clears out, very humid ahead of this. What we have seen is some drier air behind that. That will move eastward through the course of the weekend. The sticky stuff will clear briefly. Theres another system behind that that were going to have to watch closely. Into the day today, you can see that later tonight clearing out and this is tomorrow now. You can see some of this starting to develop. Thats that Severe Weather. Well have to monitor that into the day tomorrow especially. As weve reported, a group of armed fighters is trying to battle its way toward the iraqi capitol. President obama says all options are on the table to help restore order. Retired general joins us live to discuss military options and how involved the u. S. Could get. As tensions continue to rise between vietnam and beijing in the South China Sea, well take you out in the water on a coast guard ship to see the confrontations going on every day. The sisters who come here to do their gardening are afraid. They dont know what theyre going to find. Nuns going up against an Adult Entertainment complex they dont want in their back yard. Todays big number is 17,300,000. Thats a big number. Why this money is being auctioned off by the federal government. Rnment. The United States government is about to make millions off virtual currency. Ok, todays big number, 7,300,000. Thats how much bit coin is worth being auctioned off. They plan to sell 30,000 bit coins. The Digital Currency was seized during an f. B. I. Raid on the underground website silk road. That website sold everything from Illegal Drugs to hit men. Wow. Experts as i the u. S. Government made a smart move waiting until now. Its now worth six types as much as when it was confiscated. Theyll be sold in 10 blocks of 3,000. Another 144,000 bit contains were seized at part of that operation but will not be up for sale. The creator of silk road has a trial in november. Its been three years since u. S. Troops pulled out of iraq. That could change as the country continues to crumble over the threat of isil. Iraqs military is being overrun by the alqaeda inspired fighters. President obama said they will need support in the crisis but theres no word on what that support would look like. The group is threatening to move on baghdad. Joining us to discuss the military operation is a general. We heard from president obama publicly about what he is considering and options on the table. Iraqs going to need more help from us and from the international community. I dont rule out anything, because we do have a stake in making sure that these jihadists are not getting a permanent foot hold in either iraq or syria. General, what are the options . What would it take to stop isil in their traction and would any intervention really be more than just a temporary solution . Well, thats a good question. I think there are two aspects of this, the near term which is military and long term which is negotiating. Theres been proposal of providing air power, such as drone strikes and some bombing runs. The challenge with that of course is that that would require precision targeting. That can be done by drones, but better done by people on the ground and it could be special operations forces, it could be c. I. A. Agents working those types of missions. In the long run what really needs to happen is Prime Minister malaki needs to be persuaded to take more of an approach toward reconciliation. The collapse in the north happened because the dominantly shia forces in the north couldnt get along with the predominantly soon any civilians so when the terrorists infected that area, the military just simply collapsed because they didnt have the support of the local population. There needs to be nearterm action on the military front, long term action on the diplomatic front. As ive said before, the terrorists are like termites. If left unattended, theyre going to bring down the house, but if you approach the issue quickly with a little bit of gumption, i think these towns can be taken back quite quickly. Lets go back to 2011 when the u. S. Pulled out of iraq. Did the u. S. Pull out too soon or was Something Like this inevitable once the u. S. Pulled out . Well, in my judgment, the u. S. Did pull out too soon. Theres an argument about whether a second Status Force Agreement could have been brought to an agreement. Some would argue that malaki prevented that from happening. Some say president obama simply didnt want to stay in iraq and used the iraq keys as an excuse to walk out the door. I think most observers would agree that if we had left, were planning to do in afghanistan, a residual force of advisers and trainers that the forces that we see on the ground probably would have stood their ground a little better than they have so far. Thank you for joining us this morning. Sure. We will have a live report from the ground in baghdad in less than 10 minutes. Be sure to keep it here. Chain no and vietnam are taking their maritime dispute over the territory in the South China Sea to the united nations. The latest standoff is over an oil rig which the chinese moved into the waters. Both sides accuse the other of aggression. We report from the South China Sea. We are on patrol with the vietnamese coast guards in the islands in the south china see hotly contested between vietnam and china, a dispute that has been inflamed with a Chinese Oil Rig moved into the area. Vessels from both sides are nearby and doing active patrolling like this. The vessel were on is heading to the zone where the oil rig is. With us are other vessels from the vietnamese coast guard. They are expected to come into contact with chinese vessels that will try to prevent them from getting closer to the oil rig. The vietnamese accuse the chinese of ramming their vessels. They have shown us videos from hand phones of such events taking place. The chinese claim they have been rammed countless time by vietnamese vessels in this same dispute. There are lots of ships, lots of shipping in the waters at this moment. Both the vietnamese and chinese, as both sides try to assert their territorial claims here. Thats rob mcbride reporting from the South China Sea. Lets see temperatures across the country today. Meteorologist Nicole Mitchell is here with that. Definitely cooler air. A few more 50s this morning, thats that front going through. Now cooler air really isnt too bad. It means you can leave the windows overnight, anywhere from chicago to omaha. You can see that kind of 515degree cooldown from yesterday, but thats also bringing in drier air for this eveningen. After all, the humidity that will be a little bit of a nice change very warm in the northwest. Well talk more about that coming up. The race to replace outgoing House Majority leader eric cantor. The list is narrowed to a couple of congressman and there is one front runner. Some worry he may not be conservative enough for the job. We the jury find o. J. Simpson not guilty of the crime of murder. The case rivetted the public 20 years ago. How that case changed the way the legal system works today. Turning ocean trash into treasure. What some women in africa are doing with discarded flipflops washing up on beaches. The c. E. O. Whos actually encouraging people to steal his companys patented technology. Thats another story making headlines around the world. Heres a live look at that house in lake whitney texas hanging over a cliff. We first showed you this house yesterday. Its at the edge of a collapsed bluff. Emergency crews will try to demolish the home rather than wait for it to fall into the water. That sounds like a good idea. Demolish it by burning that beautiful house. Thats what theyre going to do. Welcome to al jazeera america. Coming up, looking back at how the o. J. Simpson case changed the american Justice System. One of those events we all remember where we were when the verdicts came down. The nuns fighting a strip club behind their convent. The Supreme Court ruling involving what Beverage Companies can put on their labels. First, a look at our top stories. Army sergeant Bowe Bergdahl is back in the u. S. He was freed from taliban captivity on may 31 in exchange for the release of five detainees from guantanamo prison. There were reports that several tanks that crossed from russia into eastern ukraine. This video could not be independently verified but ukrainian Officials Say it shows a tank rolling in. The ukrainian president called Vladimir Putin saying it was unacceptable. He denies the report. A group known as the Islamic State in iraq or isil has swept through the north and now threatening to invade baghdad. The fighters are using political means to turn sunni tribes against the shia. Isil is creeping closer to baghdad. Does the Prime Minister almalaki have any type of plan to slow this down . Whats been announced in the last couple of hours that the Baghdad Operations command tasked with securing baghdad have announced a security plan putting a perimeter around baghdad. Theyve announced a curfew for the baghdad belt just outside the perimeter that starts around 9 30 at night local time here. Theyve put in more mobile patrols, check posts and further securing the area where the u. S. And u. K. Embassies as well as the Prime Ministers houses are. Theyre trying to reassure baghdad residents that what happened in mosul cannot happen here in baghdad. That hasnt put many peoples minds at rest. They worry that if a city mike mosul can pull to 1300 fighters, does that mean baghdad can fold next. What about the situation in kurdistan . Were seeing two things going on. We are seeing these people flee, 500,000 refugees fleeing mosul going into iraqi territory. In the last couple of days, those people havent managed to find shelter. There is 36,000 of them according to the red cross living in the open air. In the last few hours, in the last few hours, weve heard that people are returning back to mosul. Now what isil have done is announced anybody who wants to come back is welcome to come back. They wont be harold, but they have issued a statement announcing some type of sharia religious law to be implemented. They want men to tray five times a day and said to the Army Soldiers if they want to come back, theyre welcome to come back. We see some people coming back to mosul. Reporting from baghdad, thank you. It might seem this insurgency that cropped up in a matter of days, turmoil has been brewing for much longer. We have a quick history lesson. Go back 40 years when Sadaam Hussein became president. In the 1980s, he launches a war against iran and the iraqi kurds. 1990s, iran invades kuwait. The United States leads an International Coalition in kuwait to stop the iraq attack which becomes the first gulf war. Sadaam retreated, though remained in power. In 2003 and of course u. S. Invades iraq based on a claim hussein had weapons of mass destruction. Sectarian violence breaks out with the establishment of a new iraqi government. Although election are held, ethnic groups feel disenfranchised. In august of 2010, u. S. Combat operations end and american troops withdraw, but insurgent attacks grow. In april of this year, National Elections were held and again, minority groups felt left out of the democratic process. A month later, sunni fighters joining isil insurgents began the take overof mosul. Up until september of 2012, the u. S. Spent 25 billion to train and equip iraqi soldiers. Iraq Security Forces had logistical struggles with inadequate training and poor leadership. The iraqi army suffered serious damage to dozens of helicopters and tanks. Its reported that isil has russian anti tank weapons from syria. The seeds of this have been sown for quite a while. Aljazeera has continuing coverage of the turmoil in iraq. In the next hour, the evolution of isil and the mysterious leader behind it. Kevin mccarthy a California Republican is the front runner to replace eric cantor as majority leader. The only opponent he has is congressman of ride hoe. He is expected to make a decision today. Last night, most republicans closed ranks behind mccarthy. The wall street journal said he has wide appeal among republicans. A replacement for con tore will be named thursday. Joining us to discuss it is press secretary for the Republican National committee. Why the apparent consensus behind mccarthy . I cant really speak to the horse race going on up on capitol hill going on right now. Were not very far from those buildings where all that is taking place. I know its going to work itself out and were going to have that vote and everythings going to settle down and were going to half toward elections in november that are also going to be important for our party. Like i said, its going to iron itself out and as a party, were going to have those conversations over the next couple of days and weeks and were going to get it all figured out and start moving forward. Obviously the gop doesnt want to lose seats in congress. Clearly its fortunate for david brat who unseated eric cantor to win. What can he expect from the party in way of funding . He didnt get much funding the last time around. The Republican National committee does not get involved in primaries, so moving forward obviously we will be 100 behind dave brat, the republican nominee for the seventh Congressional District of virginia, which is a republican district. Then we have every faith that he is going to be a congressman, you know, come november, come january when he is sworn in. It is a republican seat and we feel very, very good about holding that seat but also picking up seats in the house. That is the important thing to keep in perspective. We understand the shock value that happened on tuesday, and i think, you know, moving forward now that everything the dust is going to settle and were going to have new leadership in the house. Everyone needs to put in perspective where the Republican Party is as a whole. Where we are is were going to pick up seats in the house. We are likely going to turn the senate in our favor and then were going to have obviously a very good november, but start looking at 2016. I think thats where a lot of the news has been. Also this week is Hillary Clintons book tour. Based on that, we feel very, very good over the next couple of months and years. Were trying to look ahead now. Thank you very much, press secretary for the Republican National committee. Have a good morning. You, too. Flipflops are one of the most common pollutants in the indian ocean. They wash up on kenyas beaches. We met up with women cleaning the coastline and turning the trash into treasures. Its no ordinary job for these women at the coastal island. Every morning, when waters of the indian ocean recede, the women from the tiny village walk to the shoreline to collect garbage the ocean left behind. One woman leads the group, whos daily struggle is to get a meal on the table for their families. We decided to do this because our ocean and our beaches are very dirty. So we thought what can we do to make this better. We decided to collect the flipflops and make ornaments to sell. Its not just here. Garbage ends up on many beaches along the coastline. When the tide is high, water comes all the way here and leaves behind piles of garbage from countries that share the indian ocean. We found bottles from tanzania, from sea shells from other countries. Theres lots and lots of flipflops. These are the sect largest pollutants of the indian ocean after plastic. In a few hours, the womens task is complete. What is collected is just a fraction of what is littered here. But in their back yard, they clean the flipflops from countries and make trinkets out of them. Some of the flipflops end up here in the capitol of nairobi. A company that works with the women transforms them into art, sold in the u. S. Its really about using trade, a trade based solution to a problem of global pollution, and in the ocean. This is really an african solution to this global problem. So here in this workshop, they do their bit. They find a solution to protecting the beaches and reducing poverty. The companys goal is to recycle 400,000 flipflops every year. Thats a lot. Its a good goal. Lets look at other headlines around the world. Tesla is sharing the wealth. I think thats the best way to put it, the intellectual wealth. Look at this. Wire magazine said the c. E. O. Said basically they will not sue anyone who in good faith wants to use our technology, basically saying if you feel like that the technology that we have will help you make an electric car, go for it. Its not all altruistic. They do want more electric cars on the road but say if other Companies Adopt their company, it will increase the value of their company. Theyre also making the bet that a lot of companies have made, its the more efficient delivery of the mouse trap to the marketplace. We will see. Theres dark clouds overhead if youre a north korean meteorologist. State run newspaper reports kim jongun is very angry about inaccurate forecasts. Apparently theres been Drought Conditions there and he is holding the meteorologists of north korea to task. Meteorologists here have to worry about getting fired, there the stakes are hired. A lot of pressure. Nigeria, theyre in the world cup. Theyre number 44 ranking to fifa. Their flag made it into the opening ceremony, a little bit of a goof. The miami heat, the San Antonio Spurs are one win away from their fifth title, routing the heat on their home court 10786, the teams second straight victory. Leonard speaker head the win with 20 points, 14 rebounds. The heat now have to pull off the biggest comeback in nba finals history. No team in the modern era has come back from a three games to one deficit. Its been 20 years since the murder case against o. J. Simpson began. If it doesnt fit, you must acquit. The case gripped the nation and changed the way we do the legal process. Up next, a look back in the impact the trial had on america and what changed in the two decades since. A group of nuns taking on some scantily clad neighbors. How close is too close when it comes to sisters versus strippers. Former president george h. W. Bush proving you are only as old as you feel. They would relax when injected with antianxiety drugs. This research led those to wonder ifous talking abouts experience pain. 20 years ago, o. J. Simpson became a murder suspect. Bodies on the pathway into Nicole Simpsons colorado home, the bloody scene shocked the neighborhood. This was a horrendous crime. We have two people dead at the scene. Its our position, of course, that we will investigate any and all leads. That included investigating o. J. Simpson, the world famous Football Player was immediately a suspect. He had been diversed from nicole with whom he had two children, sidney and justin. Days later, police felt they had enough evidence to arrest him, and that led to this. Suspect maybe driving a white or light colored ford bronco. Suspect is possible armed, use caution. Arguably, the best known police chase in los angeles history, o. J. Fled with his friend a. J. Cowlings at the wheel. It ended with a stand off in o. J. s driveway. It ended with the trial of the century, simpson compiling a dream team of attorneys. The prosecutor marsha clark, the judge lance ito, all became household names. Cook ran emitted one of the most famous lines about the glove presented as evidence. If it doesnt fit, you must acquit. And they did. We the jury in the above entitled action find the defendant o. J. As i am no one not guilty of the crime of murder. The reaction split the country in two, mostly down racial lines. In the end, simpson was ordered to pay 25 million to the brown and goldman families in a civil trial. The case was only the beginning of simpsons legal troubles. He is currently in prison in nevada for the Armed Robbery of a Sports Memorabilia dealer. Jami floyd, aljazeera legal contributor joins us and timothy sullivan, former Senior Vice President of noose for court t. V. I want to ask you both about the legacy of this trial from two perspectives, first the legal perspective. As you just pointed out, theres been a long legal legacy for o. J. Simpson. Hes had a number of trials. Theres a road rage trial which we didnt mention there and the trial that landed o. J. In prison in nevada. He continues to fight that on appeal, but the larger legacy is for the criminal Justice System itself. I think most experts would agree its a bad legacy, a damaging one. People watched a trial that was not at all representative of what happens in americas courts every day, and so its a skewed legacy. I think thats the case for any of these highly publicized trials. What youre seeing is not a real trial. Its a surgery cuss trial, people purchase for the camera. Whether they realize it or not, and i dont want to take anything away from what these lawyers did or the judge did or the witnesses in this courtroom or my colleague, the analysts, but its not a real trial. So thats undermining the system when we think that this is representative of our Justice System. I have a blog about this on tumblr because i feel strongly about it. It makes me question whether cameras in the courtroom are a good thing for the Justice System. Tim, the Cultural Impact of this trial. There were many dimensions to the Cultural Impact. It changed television for one thing, it changed television news. One of the really lasting impacts of it culturally was that it exposed how much we still have a problem in this country with race and with race relations. When that acquittal came down, there was a split among the races in many communities and in many ways. Many white people saw it as a miscarriage of justice. They believed o. J. Simpson because of his celebrity and because he had a great legal team had beaten the rap, acquitted of a crime that he should have been found guilty of, where as on the other hand, many africanamericans, not all, but many believed that it was a case in which yet another africanamerican who had been mistreated by a racist system, who had the police had perhaps tried to frame, had been acquitted. They saw it as a victory for an africanamerican against a system that had mistreated africanamericans for decades in this country. Certainly. You could argue one of the big stars of the whole trial were the t. V. Cameras and the t. V. Camera in the courtroom. We already know sort of how you feel. We really, the legacy of t. V. Cameras in the courtroom, good or a bad thing. Start with you, jami. Well, obviously, its been good for those net working that cover courtrooms, right . And a lot of them sprung up. A lot of people say court t. V. Got its start with the simpson trial, but thats an inaccurate statement. It really, the with my Kennedy Smith trial was the first big am i right about this . Yes. The first big case we covered and that got a huge amount of attention. There was the mendez trial which got a lot of attention. Cases have always been big entertainment in this country even before cameras were in courts. You can back to the colonial days, the lindbergh baby case, but this camera in the courtroom, its like the original reality t. V. Im not the first person to say that. Its been bad for us. I think its bad for the system. It may not be bad for entertainment. It may not be bad for the parties and people like me who make a living talks about it, but not good for criminal justice. Tim, what do you say . I agree that by now it has become a problem for many in the system, particularly defends, but also pressures. In many ways now, juries demand a very High Standard of proof, beyond a reasonable doubt even. That began with the simpson case. They want d. N. A. Evidence, videotape of crimes. They want all sorts of things that they didnt know about, much less demand before cameras were put into the courtrooms. There is a positive legacy, though to cameras in the courtrooms. The public understands the process a lot better than it ever did before. People no longer believe a trial goes the way trials used to go on perry mason or on other t. V. Melodramas we grew up watching. Or even allow and order. People understand that the system is flawed, that juries often get it wrong, that theres prejudice in the system and this system is not infallible. Well have to leave it there. Im embarrassed to say i can remember perry mason and cant believe its been 20 years since the o. J. Simpson trial. As the situation has now descended and accelerated into a full blown crisis, a series of meetings and consultations here at the white house. The president and administration are accused of failing to reach an agreement in 2011 when the president ended the u. S. Role. American forces on the ground did not have the agreement that would allow a Counter Terrorism force to remain just over the horizon as the phrase goes, collecting intelligence, and training iraqi forces. Mike, tell us more about what the president had to say. He did meet yesterday with the australian Prime Minister tony abbot. The situation reached a point where the president spoke extensively about the situation in iraq. After three years of really touting his iraq policy as a suks, he left the door open for direct military action. What weve seen over the last couple of days indicates the degree to which iraqs going to need more help, from us and from the international community. The offensive doesnt seem to be letting up. With isils offensive creeping closer to baghdad, does almalaki have a plan to slow them down . What the Baghdad Operations command ever done and theyre the people responsible for securing baghdad, theyve announced that a security plan, they put a perimeter around the city, they are mounting more mobile patrols, there are more check posts and they are mounting increased further increased security at the green zone where the parliaments prime office is. Joining us to discuss this case and product labeling is marcus li lypp. What does the lawsuit mean for consumers . I believe theres certainly multiple aspects on this lawsuit. One critical aspect for consumers is there is actually two sides to a product, the front label and back label, and it heights the need for all consumers to read the back label carefully, because thats where a lot of information about products is available to consumers that make informed decisions. I understand your organization keeps a database of ingredients in foods that might surprise our viewers. Lets go through products, starting with olive oil and fruit juices and coffee. United states has a food database available freely to anybody. We understand what is a good ingredient, also what can go wrong. We felt its a good service to make this publicly available for everybody to be on the same page. Fruit juices are one of the topics that can go wrong. There is a clear distinction that consumers need to be aware that there is fruit drinks and fruit juices and these are different products. A look at the back of the product can reveal what that truly means, but there is also adult rated products. What is in olive oil . It should be made out of pure olives.
