and i'm elizabeth broadman. this is the news, allen live from doha. coming up in the next 60 minutes ango, in milan, we get the lack of rescue services. afterwards was floods. the president appeals for international health. i'm from me to ma, just outside the commercial capital blan tire. we hopes of finding anyone else alive, a fading japan and south korea greater resume shuttle diplomacy and resolve trade dispute. as the leaders of both countries meet for the 1st time and 12 years credit swishes serge off the south central bank for the lifeline. european stock market opened high on the news. and the u. n's. nuclear watchdog says more than 2 tons of uranium has gone missing in libya. i'm trying to get raska with the sports is defending champions, rail madrid, reach the pool to find out that the champions lee and italian legally does not please join them, qualify to the last 8 to the 1st time in the history of the club. ah, we begin in malawi, where the president has appealed for global support after a tropical cyclone had the east of southern africa on the weekend for a 2nd time, mccullough is commercial hub, has seen the most damage with flooding and mud slides, at least 225 people have died. hundreds of missing rescuers scramble to reach survivors mostly around blan tire. after freddy smashed into the country and neighboring mozambique triggering floods and lance lives. the government has promised $1500000.00 to assist the 10s of thousands of millenniums affected by the storm. but there is a anger about the lack of rescue services. let 3rd bring in our correspondent family, the miller. now she's joining us live from mulanda. what is the situation there today for me? the wood, the weather improving, our rescue services recovery efforts ramping up at all? so that's one thing people can to some extent rely on is that the weather is improving at least to some extent. and that may help in reducing the number of challenges they're facing with regard to those rescue efforts, trying to clean up, but also trying to accommodate the thousands of people have been displaced. the government has said that or at least studied close to 20000 households, have been impacted by the flooding and the mud slides we've seen in recent days. that equates to at 88000 people. that's what they're dealing with when trying to accommodate people who have no way to go. the government has said they've set up about a $135.00 camps for those people scattered around a black tie and the surrounding areas you're in will under a west. we're going to speak to a member of parliament representing this district whose have been tender and use of to what extent has this district and the region been impacted? how bad has it been following psych loan freddie? yeah, absolutely. are this sacred freddy hazard or given us a little problems because we have people who are, who have been rendered homeless. they don't have food, they don't of clothing, they don't are val, water, clean water. so it's sitting there, but we, we, we, we don't even know what to people are going to it for line to this to day. all if in supper we don't to know because it, ah, we have not yet received in it. if item as we speak, and that's one of the greatest challenges. number one people, many people you rely on crop farming on their farms have been destroyed so that access to food is impacted. no electricity, no running water. you as an m p as a government representative. how have you been able to respond to those challenges if the national government is struggling? this is the saw devastating under our with the little that i, i had, it was not enough. i managed to get to if your pockets over over miss flowers. thus vista performed for the round here and im, i did not even go to other areas away. our people are equally affected. ah, because i don't have the capacity to go to every one or who has been affected by this calamity. now, one of the practical challenges here is that the serious link to its neighbor by your bridge that's been destroyed. there's a temporary breach that's been put in place, but schools are closed. people can't travel back and forth. how difficult is, is making life for them. it is very difficult because the people from more their frequency addresses that are joined by this bridge got no longer ah good to each other and it did. but the thing is that, do we have? we're a big, bigger market in our constituency that deserving people from other constituencies, those people will not be able to access the market. is there any timeline that people he or can, can rely on in terms of when they might get the assistance needed? when there will be a response, when they'll have answers around how to recover from a cycle on friday. it is not clear because even the government is still collecting data, where they have frontier to start today, ah, coming to the people who are affected. so it's sitting very difficult. all right, thank you very much for your time or use of. we are expecting our president lizard lazarus to query to visit this area at some point. or during the course of the day, we do know that he's making a number of stops in some places. and again, i think the greatest challenge that he's going to have to face is responding to what people have experienced. following that psych loan interest, how slow the government has been to respond, and it's reliance on aid agencies to get emergency supplies. i'm out on the ground . one is a thank you very much for that. that is fine with the miller bringing us the latest from at milan, jane maloney. thank you. is alonzo. other news now and the leaders of south korea and japan, a meeting in tokyo and what's being hailed as a new milestone and their relationship. this is the 1st time a south korean leader has visited toto and 12 years. the 2 countries agreed to resume regular visits between their leaders and an agreement was made to rebuild security and economic economic ties. which is ours before the meeting. north korea fired an intercontinental ballistic missile into waters between the korean peninsula and japan. it's the 3rd miss, our launch by pyongyang. this week, japan has called a national security council meeting in response to the latest test. let's get more on this. we're joined by fatty salami, he's there life for us in tokyo. so a significant 1st step faddie given is no shortage of differences that the 2 countries have worked through here. this is very, very important. why it couldn't be followed by all of the local media in japan with great interest because i'm here to look at that. and so almost 20 years of called the relationship. see both countries, both century rates on global cations. so if north korea just the day you in north korea 5, it's messiah before the arrival. done. so there was some mission from japan and from south korea. and just a few minutes ago in the conference, which i ended between the business and i missed that both of them. they showed that he wanted this kind of a shot and they're going to, they said they are going to leave in new nights more in the face. so i thought jackson action by yeah, and they're going to accelerate the corporation. we the united states did this time when some studio was done. right. so that isn't ships have been about 20 years and they're looking to start from diplomacy. they've kinda savvy. thank you very much for that fatty. allow me bringing us the latest from tokyo there. credit suisse jazz rebounded after announcing it would borrow up to $4055.00 rather $1000000000.00 from switzerland central bank, the european banking john. she has plunged to record lows on wednesday after its biggest linda sounding national banks, that it would not be able to provide more financial help. credits faces, troubles are being watch closely since the collapse of to us banks last weekend. what spark drops and european and the u. s. stock market that's bringing corresponded to anderson and he's joining us live from london. so 1st a couple of midsize regional banks in the u. s. and now a large repeating bank and to just how bad is the banking crisis looking on the 1st stir site this morning at the crisis seems a little bit more positive with credit suisse sir. staging. some sort of recovery hair with a big surge on its stalks and increases of around 30 percent at one point. but then they settled down and around 18 percent of the european markets which are took a dim view in clinic, very dramatic terms or on wednesday. they've made a modest recovery here in london, one and a half percent up, and in frankfort and paris, 1.7 percent increase in stocks. what we saw on wednesday was a some attempt at some form of reassurance from the ceo of credit suisse. a saying that sir, they did found funding weaknesses in that search, financial reporting, and that is a caused alarm. furthermore, there was other attempts at trying to get some, some rescue packaged together that came together over nights with the 50 for more than $54000000000.00 in a loan coming from the swiss national bank. so as there they've stem the tide of, of a crash, but certainly not quite there yet. and, and we've spoken to analyst sandra has said that, you know, one thing that these 2 cases have in common is bad management and specifically bad risk management. but as the turmoil at credit suisse and directly related or caused by the crash of the silicon valley and signature bags in the u. s. no, not really oversee the earth that the whole run on on banks has had its own course . it's, it's like it's not a contagion, but it's been a massive crisis, has no disguising the fact that billions of dollars are of losses have been made by the banks, them in terms of their values. and what we've seen now is that this bank, it's not an ordinary bank, it's, it's very much a tailored for the rich billionaires and, and man millionaires. but it's also got a really controversial history of, there's been no profits made in the last 2 years and, and certainly this year it doesn't look like making any profit. furthermore, they've had scandals, allegations of espionage allegations of money laundering in the past. lots of a high level departures of executives. so really this is a, a bank that sir, wasn't necessarily wobbly but, but certainly very controversial. furthermore, the saudi national bank had been playing a part really in the crisis about what it said a few days ago. because it said that it is the largest shareholder in the bank and it said that it wouldn't be buying any more. shares for regulatory reasons. now, a short time ago that sadie national bank is saying that, look that, that this is not a crisis. this bank is, is sound so there's no need for this turmoil right now. the suggestion by analysts says that this bank probably won't crash, but it is likely to be taken over. andrew, thank you very much for that. anderson and for the latest life or as in london. thank you. a painting more head on the news allah. including former pakistani, prime minister and long con, joins us live from the for a court stop police from taking con into custody earlier today. the cotton indonesia, hans, it's verdict to 3 police officers charged after last year's football stadium crush . where a 135 people died. and a football veteran is called back into sweden squad as they tried to qualify for the euro's that's coming up with jordan sport. ah, the police officer implicated and a fatal football stadium crash and indonesia has been sentenced to 18 months in prison. 2 other officers have been found not guilty. a 135 people died when offices 5 tear gas into the stands after a pitch innovation in the east java city of milan. in october we're joining us now live from jakarta, as in st. mon. hm. the, the executive director of the amnesty international in indonesia. thank you very much for your time. firstly, your reaction to your reaction to the sentencing. well, i think you know what the seeing today and the last couple of days in court ruling shows how in the nation or if he's failing to provide justice, the victims of a football stadium disaster. i think this is not only one gave is that there are so many other cases where, you know, there it is, are failing to provide just the victims of access it's use of force in indonesia and for the case of a disaster reading. and the reason president, reason government has made promises and bows in the aftermath of the disaster to hold those responsible to come. however, today, the families of the victims are understandably destroyed and at the meagre results of the cases which have fallen far short with a life sentence in court. some months after, a tragedy that show the world only a handful of people have been convicted. so again, we would like to reiterate our calls that is in government to launch a proper, from the ro, an independent investigation into the appalling actions. ok, it could be forces at the stadium from mr. how many does that mean that you don't believe that there was an affective problem to what happened in indonesia, there is a deeply entrench and growth pattern of violence. impunity, and abuse of power by the isms to go to forces. and this time, the case should be a chance to write rounds. the change course not to repeat the same old mistakes. so lack of accountability in indonesia, also sense a dangerous message to members of security forces who may be re assured that they can operate with a free hand and 0 consequences. i'm going to i team and indonesia has been speaking to victims, families who say that they feel completely defeated by this whole process. is there any recalls for them? 135 people died. this is one of the worst football tragedies in history and sun, many of the people who died when miners, they were children. exactly, exactly. this is so this is a tragedy, a tragedy that should not be repeated again by making sure justice and accountability is being delivered by bringing those perpetrators to justice and impose proper sentence. not a life sentence just like what we've seen today or the last couple of base. it's really good. it's against the law. it's against a human being the of the victims and the families. 135 people dies. you know, how come the government? again, failing to provide justice to the victims of football stadium there. and so can those families then challenge these sentences well, in, in criminal cases, in indonesia, the families are being represented by in the nation. public prosecutors. so i started indonesian prosecutors did not or did not take a proper action, proper investigation and progress died. and i don't think justice will be delivered to the families and figures that with mom. i mean from amnesty international and indonesia. we thank you very much for your time on the story. we do appreciate the block of thought. now our court has barred police operation to arrest former prime minister. and ron con, until friday, con is accused of repeatedly failing to appear in court for a hearing. comes after 2 days of attend stand off in the hall between security forces. and con supporters come on either has more from outside and wrong cons. residence in the whole weird outside of the budget don teddy against iran con, call has been bad since the nation a damned on him. i know also odd says the border guard, i can see people when they are now preparing for another action. the police guard had been doors by law high guard which had dropped the police operator and 5 gmc on the 3rd day now extended that friday. it also ruled ron vaughan will not be allowed to hold a rally may not a budget on richard a one year man to budget on, on the 19th, saying that he would need dr. permission for 15 days ahead of that rally m ron hahn. adults are likely to appear before the court and it's normal bod, on they were the ones who issued viet warren and the georgia gateway for james to get saved by a foreign heads of j. m. ron on are going to harder leverage party needed their deliveries. gm, them on bog. it will be important to see what decisions are made. but in the meantime, everybody in august on is hoping that this particular issue ended dog soon got that off the hall. and formal pakistani prime minister and ron con is joining us live from the home of account. thank you very much for your time. when we spoke 2 days ago, police and paramilitary forces had surrounded your house. the interior minister said that they would arrest you by the end of day on tuesday. that hasn't happened. you now and you in court. i believe on the 18th. will you appear in court? will you cooperate with the police? will i am? i am a bearing on the court on the idiot up and just to give the viewers a background. i had bill right up to the eighty's. when my go to paris was going to take place. the police turned up for this earlier. so it was unlawful. i was already had protected bill and it, when i, when this, this massive force. i mean it's never happened before and i, history thousands up, but he's been and rangers. try to attack my house and arrest me. so when the game with his force, i then give my lawyer give them an assurity that i would attend the court. so the whole idea of police was supposedly to take me to court, which was on the 18th. so i give them an assure a d, and the law says that once i would have given them a surety the police shouldn't recipe. but despite that, the force kept increasing and the herb at the violence, i mean, the dear guessing and water gannons at their shot belts are, are, are, are, are our workers. and then there were bullets fired. so it's never happened in august on before i priority for saying i the reason i believe that mr. can authority is a saying that the reason why they've had to send so many police officers and even the paramilitary is because you are invading arrest. what do you say are to the charge that they are trying to you are facing many charges but to the specific charge that they are trying to arrest you on this time, which is buying and selling states guests without declaring the profits correctly. 2 authorities bursted, they have 85 cases against me right now of 6 more cases added. so every other day, there's some sort of a guest which comes up and a court appearance. let me 1st clear that this is an allegation about stared gifts . every thing i have done has law for the reason i could not attend this particular court. was there been to us bomb attacks in this court? there's no security there. judges what girl that lawyers were killed there. my security didn't door me that you cannot attend because the place is such that they can't provide any security. so therefore we asked them to shift that gears into another court, which they refused, and they give and the arrest warrant was given despite. well that i had an arrest warrant, i had protected bill till the 18th, despite that the police game because the intention is not law her, the intention is to put me into jail. and why are my supporters resisting that? because this custodial daughter in pakistan, my senator, has been tortured and custody. my chief off stop was dick picked up, tortured and custody of one of our workers 5 days ago was girl daughter in the in custody of thought on the ground. so people are petrified, that the intention is not about wrong. the intention is doug sub, i'll get me into jill with where there is custodial torture. and remember, i am already, i've just recovered from bullet wounds, received an, an assassination attempt, where i believe the same people who are trying to put me in jail odd. they are responsible for the attempt on my life. again, that is an allegation that said that you're making you say that people are petrified, but we're also seeing people in your support as you have asked your supporters to come out and fight. and indeed we are seeing them outside your house and other places. and they themselves, ah, holding sticks, are you not worried about the potential for violence here? what, let me explain 1st. this is not the 1st time they've come to a recipe. in the past 6 months, they've been 3 times. they came to arrest me. and they came to in the past 3 times this on a weekend, they came up with a warrant, knowing i couldn't go to the court because it's a weekend and suddenly came to recipe. each time when the, when my supporters found out they were coming to recipe, the game to surround my house. why? because people know that the assassination attempt on me was made by these guys. you know, i have, i've named them. and by the way, one and a half once before the assassination attempt, i had been going public and saying that they're going to try and kill me through this, or a religious fundamental as supposedly. i'd want every one and the i was lucky to be alive to do. and so the same people are trying to rest be on frivolous cases. remember, these cases are all frivolous and allegations each day the going to the court. the court removed the cases i be the dispenses the cases. when let's see what happens when you do finally appear in court. on the 18th there in mankind, we thank you for your time. as always on al jazeera, we do appreciate it. i found her thank you to india now with tens of thousands of farmers, a marching and moon by yeah, the 200 kilometer walked on from the city of gnostic and madame de bama demanding compensation for their losses and une and crops after a huge drop in prices for the government blames the surplus and production for the for them values. india is the world biggest export of onion. but more on this, let's speak to probably mid so she's joining us from new delhi. so just to walk us through what's caused this crisis and the exact demands of the farm as bob, me so farmers in western india are in a dire situation. houses of them in the state of my russia, marching to the city of moon by which is the state capitol. it's a difficult journey. do 100 kilometers on foot in this heat. they have a list of demands, the major one being they want financial assistance from the government off to onion prices crashed in wholesale market. no, russia is in. does largest produce of onions, but prices have plunged to about 3 dollars, 400 kilograms. that's a fraction of what farmers would normally get. this is partially because productivity has been higher, production has been higher. and the other reason animal concerning reason is panic selling an earlier and more intense summer and higher temperatures are threatening the crops. and so farmers are trying to sell them as soon as they can and get whatever money they can foreseeing prices to drop to a level that for some farmers it's been easier to just bond the crop than to actually try and spend money to transport it to other areas and sell it over them. now, as we speak of farmers and the unions are in talks with the government. the government has said it is going to try and find a solution. but farmers have a long list of demands that the government still has to meet these include waivers for loans of. 1 farmers, farmers also want to be compensated for all the losses. they also want the government to improve agriculture. facilities like electricity supply. as of now, their plan is to reach the city of mom by by monday, that is march 28th and hold. hold a mass agitation over there. have me. thank you for that. that is polly mitchell with the latest life or as a new delhi. thank you. so the head on the news, al attention was going on. the streets of senegal is opposition. that was mom, phone call is due to appear in court. and for 12 country boy caught the woman's world box and championship as russian and better russian athletes are allowed to compete. ah, ah, there we've got a warm pool of air spreading across europe. so let me show you those details right here right now you can already see the effects of it, right? 17 degrees in paris on thursday, but outbreaks of rain across the islands of ireland and britain. and we can follow that trail of disturbed weather through the northwest of spain and coastal portugal as while, but its warmth coming into central europe. so 12 degrees in zurich is a forecast on thursday. look at this, i think them snow showers in sophia bulgaria, but by mid week next week it's going to be t shirt weather. so if you're up to 18 degrees, certainly similar values right across the balkans, far back to the here. and now here's our forecast for thursday, across turkey, a lot of wet weather from the boss for us to see mar, mariah through the a g n and the eastern mediterranean. but we'll get some breaks from that rain for the southeast corner of turkey, where there has been some flooding in that earthquake so high temperatures to report incentive gall. this is now a record for the month of march, $46.00 degrees dark, the bread, the hard, the temperature here. otherwise, africa, it's fairly quiet breezy across libya, the northwest of egypt. and as we dip toward the south, still windy across south africa, the coastline could see gusts here, up to 70 kilometers per hour. hang onto your hats. that's it for now. bye for now. the ah. watching the out of the news with me on the reminder of our stories. the falla monopolies president has appealed for global support. after tropical psych clone had the east of southern africa, its commercial hub land time has seen the most damaged with flooding and land lines around 225 people have died. for the 1st time and 12 years, the leaders of felt the leader rather of south korea. as in japan, the 2 nations said they want to rebuild security and economic ties. in the face of continued threats from north korea. i'm credit swishes rebound off to announcing it with bar up to $54000000000.00 from switzerland central bank. she has plans to record lowes on wednesday afterwards. biggest lambda sounding national bank, that it would not be able to provide more financial help to some breaking news out of the united states. now in the us military has just released a video of the encounter between russian su 27 fighter jets and a us drone that has been growing more woods between moscow and washington over us. drawing that crashed in the black sea and a phone call, roches, defense minister told us counterpart that drawn flights near crimea will provocative. earlier the us said, the cross was intentionally harassed by a russian fighter jet, but it wasn't sure if the collision was deliberate. well, let's get more on this now. we're joined by some need for ease of visiting lecture and wolf studies at kings called london is also the author of russia's wrote war with ukraine. and he's joining us from singapore. always good to have you with us. on alex's era, so what do you make of this videos? was very dramatic potential, and i think it gives us images accompany the was that we read yesterday or the day before in the department defense press release explaining what had happened. we see the people being dumped by this according 27 russian points. we see of course pos, extremely close to the u. s. reef is right, and then we leave a position and put this comes back and then we also i think another important detail is since yesterday we're discussing this is actually have more of a sense of where in the black sea this went down south west of the crime in sewer. so i think we're starting to put the picture together a little bit more clearly as to what happened and where the string was actually flying when this encounter took place. okay, so so far the video confirms what us officials have been saying, but can reveal whether the encounter was intentional based on or how i interpreted the petition. i don't think so. i think if the version pilot intended to physically knock out this drying fly so close to the actually touched his across that is extremely risky. me and even for that pilot, because it's, you know, millimeters will centimeters away from the mit collision. so i still think of balances may have been some think the russians with doing the part very closely to demonstrate of course that they want to show that they have mastery of the sky as the merits merican counsellor. he's intelligent much on the stubs, but i don't think it's possible necessary to distinguish whether it was intentional or accidental and the americans, you know, despite condemning what's happened, the language that they've been using around this incident is one of saying that it was incompetence on the part of russians rather than been trying to do anything like this intentionally. yes, that's right. i think of course the americans are going to be principally concerned as to the future. applying these intelligence gathering missions, you surveillance missions, which is the south west of the crime in peninsula where we know this person went down. that's more or less below a desa, the ukrainian city that was, you know, trusted. and it's not far from where the most give us russian more ship was sunk back in april. so i think that is a big concern in the us and they will be able to continue to mount the surveillance operations without this kind of thing happening again. so that's the of the big us . and what about concern over the debris? is anyone looking for us? what happens if it's found? how difficult is it to find debris in the black sea? right, well, we understand it again. it's a very deep part of the black sea. so the surveillance operation beach creamy complicated. some sort of critics of russia have quit the russian struggles 20 years ago to actually get the cask submarine there in submarine, when it went down. and it's will pito propulsion accident. how are they going to find it? the same time they happen, reports of russia worships coming to where the wreckage is. so like i leverage the russian form. it is the stuff that they're going to try to recover it. wait and see what they do recover it. but if they think that might be quite a benefits to, to the russians, and would say probably to the iranians who they are in it and thrown partnership with us. we know russia by iranian dreams, maybe they would supply the technology a read of that technology on the american drive to the iranian in a quick record. that's a possibility. if they get it back, then very interesting, mr. rudy. thank you for your time. as always, that is so me for rejoining us live from singapore. just going back to a story we touched on earlier in the program in north korea's missile testing program has increased dramatically on the kim jong and tenure. the impoverished country has spent tens of billions of dollars developing a wide variety of missile systems, of increasing sophistication from submarine launch missiles to those launch from trains and increasingly long range methodical. icbm that could hit any targets in the united states. in january this year came john and announce he would be increasing the frequency of missile tests, which would plans to launch more in 2023 than ever before. well, let's get more on this now. we're joined by benway hardy shout drawn, an adjunct professor of political science and international affairs at temple university, japan and a specialist in east asian geo politics and security. he's joining us live from tokyo, thank you very much for your time. so certainly we've seen an increase in the launch of ballistic missiles, but why? well, these ballistic missiles have been on the radar or for north 3 for many years now. for north korea, ballistic missiles represent, in addition to their new program, the ultimate deter, and having a reliable number arsenal, ballistic missiles, along with our new nuclear program, is from the perspective appealingly on the best way to ensure and guarantee the security of the king. john, in regime, so that's one of the reasons why they are developing and launching the missile. but there's other reasons as, while north korea is currently trying to send a strong message, because right now this week, the american south koreans are conducting large scale military drills. it's also a message of opposition to the it's also predictable though, isn't it? because when ever the u. s. and south korea carry out military exercises. north korea usually launches missiles, the nuclear weapons, stop other countries from attacking north korea. but the international community is not. it's given no signs that it's willing to accept young gang as a nuclear power. so is there any way out of the stalemate, this predictable pattern that we keep on seeing? yeah, i think there's no real obvious solution to this issue. and it's obvious when you think that it's been 30 years now that we've been trying to reach some kind of agreement with north korea. their nuclear program actually started during the 19 eighties and we've known about the 1990. so there's been numerous round of negotiation. there's been numerous even agreement in the past that have not been respected. and now north korea is more team than ever to declare itself a nuclear power. so although, as you rightly pointed out, the international community is not willing to accept north korea as a nuclear power. it really has no choice to kind of back though deal with north korea or accepted as a new for power. although it's not going to say so publicly and in the meantime, you know, what is the price for north korean people? many of whom live in poor condition. they're isolated from, from the world. while the government spends hundreds of millions of dollars on the nuclear weapons program. yeah, the price unfortunately, and often we kind of forget the north korean people when we talk about that. but the price has been tremendous. the north korean government has spent the up to 25 percent of the gdp on military, on military development, both when it comes to nuclear and missile issues. so something's gotta give and obviously the north korean people have not been able to have very high standards of living, especially outside of the capital young young. so from the korean regime perspective, that the priority is not there. people, it is a survival of the receipt with the ben wash, hottie shelter on joining us live from tokyo there. thank you very much for your insights on the story. we do appreciate it. my pleasure. thank you very much. and japan is hosting a defense show or a joint fighter jet project with the u. k. an italy is due to take center stage. the asia pacific region is witnessing of rapid military build up with several countries, including japan, increasing their defense budgets grants. louis has more pieces, more japan's next generation. stealth fighter will look like it's a joint project with the u. k. and italy, marking japan's 1st major military development with a partner other than the u. s. since world war 2 and less say security considerations in the region are changing, driven by 2 main factors, prompting countries to rethink the defense strategies. well 1st, the main challenge seems to me as north korea is continually testing a ballistic missiles and violating un sanctions. because that's an unstable situation at any time. second is really the great power rivalry. the intensification note, i call an action reaction o. in gauged events between china and the united states militarily. asia pacific is where the economic and military rivalry between the u. s. and china is being played out. the u. s. has been challenging. china's expansive and increasingly assertive claims in the south china sea, with what it calls, freedom of navigation operations. china's military and political pressure on tie one to accept chinese sovereignty has also increased tensions in the region. we now back to the normal of mont history with the world. he's the bar up into competing great powers and complete power walks. and that's what we're saying in, in the pacific region. it's never that competition is inevitable. conflict or war is not inevitable, but it's more of a possibility i think, going forward and it has been looking backwards. the growing geopolitical uncertainty has seen countries unveil new strategies for the region that includes australia, new security and technology pants with the u. s. and the u. k. it's also set off an arms race as country seat to modernize their weaponry, but not everyone believes military might, is a useful deterrent at the defense show in tokyo, anti war protesters have appear message, boy, dis, thank you. now, one important thing for stopping the wars and conflicts going on know is getting rid of weapons. that message unlikely to be heard in the corridors of power. florence nearly algebra to sending all now or opposition leaderless mon sonco is due in court to hear if he's eligible to run and next year's presidential election . there is a growing concerned president mackey sal could ron for controversial 3rd to which the opposition says is unconstitutional? well, let's bring in our cost, wanted nicholas park. he's joining us live from to casa, what is, what's going on behind you next? what's the scenes on the streets as we get ready for song post appearance? well, let me show you where we are right now. we're outside the main courthouse in the capital, the car, and look at the amount of security there is around me, whether it's in front of the court house or right here. we can hear loud bangs in the distance, said. smoke billowing after police in riot gear. have been firing tear gas, we saw the convoy of the opposition leader response on go leave his house, he's inside this court and what's being played out right now inside this court room, which is a where he's meeting the judge is over. an accusation that of defamation, he had accused a government minister of corruption, that minister sued him. and if he is convicted for that, then he will not be illegible to run in the upcoming presidential election in that election. that's a year way it feels that it's being played out right now inside this court house. absolutely. a lot of attention, a lot of security, a lot at stake. so what can we expect from the court hearing neg well is so much of what you're seeing right now is less about this defamation case . but more about what's happening on the, you know, we're just slides. so you can see how touchy these security forces are since this morning. they've been pushing journalists and people away from this court house. and why there's so much tension around this case. well, because there is no clarity of what the president, the current president president mike is i'll will do in these elections. he's already run to mandates. and during that time in office he changed the constitution . which means that technically he could run for a 3rd mandate. and this is something that a lot of people don't want him to see, at least members of the opposition. and there's a sense for many here that it's less about a court case. it's about saving democracy in the democratic institutions in senegal . and that's what we're seeing so many people, so many young people taking to the streets, getting their voices heard and that are outside this court house right now with thank you very much for that. that is nicholas hot at live for us and deca. thank you to libby in our efforts underway to find more than 2 tons of uranium reported missing by the u. n's nuclear watchdog. 10 drums of the radio acts of material had been declared as being at a site that were missing when the international atomic energy agency carried out an inspection. the agency will now try to clarify the circumstances behind the removal of the nuclear material and where it is. now, let's bring in my cos bonded malik trina. he's joining his life on miss russia. have we heard from the government about this monic? what was a bit the announcement came from the un watchdogs late last night. the government has yet to officially release a statement or, or, or respond to that. but we've been talking to people within the tripoli administration sources. hi, up in the triple administration. they say that they're going to open up an investigation of their own. at the moment, there's a lot more questions and there are answers, lukia's own atomic energy agency will be holding a meeting. today, they'll likely come out with a statement. so we'll be looking out for that in the next couple of hours. and with so many different, you know, rival factions and power and libya who's responsible for protecting the side. well, that's, that's right. so libya has been engulfed in conflict, political divisions and violence for more than a decade now. so this site is in southern libya, which is, you know, it's a desert of vast areas of land with various armed groups, a controlling specific area. so we even have an in joke for which we're not far from this site. and somehow you have the kremlin back to wagner group. you also have a forces that are loyal to warlords. police have to who controls eastern libya and parts of the south. so who's responsible, the tripoli administration will say that hoster has not allowed access to the libyan atomic energy agency, to, to go into the site and, and see what and be able to coordinate with the un as to as to the uranium. so right now, like i said, a lot more questions and there are answers. we're going to have to wait and see what kind of actions the un takes and what kind of answers come out from an investigation that the libyan authorities hold themselves. all right, malick, thank you for that. that is monic trina with what we do know so far from ms. rata. thank you. a powerful explosion at a coal mine and central columbia has killed at least 11 people. it happened in suit i told her about 75
