Both Sioux Falls Washington basketball teams are ranked No. 1 in the state, and played the No. 2 teams in close games on Monday.
The Warrior boys held South Dakota’s best player and Wisconsin commit Matthew Mors to 20 points — seven below his state-high season average — in a 55-48 home win over No. 2 Yankton, which fell to 7-2.
Mikele Kambalo led WHS (5-1) with 17 points, nailing a clutch 3-pointer at the shot clock buzzer to give the Warriors a 7-point cushion with 2:40 remaining in the game.
Meanwhile, the Warrior girls lost at No. 2 Harrisburg 68-60, in overtime. Carolyn Harr scored a career-high 25 points and poured in a school record seven 3-pointers, including the go-ahead splash in overtime, as the Tigers moved to 8-0.
