(Photo courtesy of SDSPPO) BUTUAN CITY - The recent arrest of a top leader of the New People's Army (NPA) in Surigao City will further weaken the rebel communist movement in the areas of Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur. Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr., Police Regional Office in the Caraga Region (PRO-13) chief, made this assessment Tuesday following the Sept. 10 arrest of Nenita Generalao Dolera, NPA Guerrilla Front 19 under its North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee secretary. "The arrest of their secretary will hastily weaken their doomed organization," Caramat said, as he commended the arresting team composed of police, Amy, and coast guard personnel. Dolera, 31, was arrested in Purok Bilang-Bilang, Barangay Taft, Surigao City. She is facing two attempted criminal charges at the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 40 in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur, and a frustrated murder case at the RTC Branch 7 in Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur. Col. Rommel Almaria, Army's 401st Infantry Brigade (401Bde) head, also believes Guerrilla Front 19 "is now on the verge of collapse following the arrest of their leader." "Now is the best time for the remaining NPAs to return to the folds of the law while there's still time and opportunity," Almaria said. The CPP-NPA is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines. The National Democratic Front was formally designated as a terrorist organization by the Anti-Terrorism Council on June 23, 2021, citing it as "an integral and inseparable part" of the CPP-NPA created in April 1973.
