Most of the revenue from the supplement will be shared among the establishments' 10 staff, but some will be retained to go towards investment in staff, including training or team-building activities.
Verner’s partner, Hillary Eaton, said exactly how much went directly to staff and how much went to development would be determined by how much the surcharge brought it, but she imagined it would be around an 85-15 split.
“It’s on us to have the extra funds to help these people get more skills, certifications – that helps them in the long run as well,” she said. “That’s not something we have endless extra funds for.”
