The Remington Model 870 "Express" shotguns can be configured different ways by simply and easily changing barrels. Pictured, from left, are a 12-gauge with a 20-inch smoothbore barrel equipped with iron sights, a 20-gauge witha rifled 18.5-inch barrel equipped with a red-dot sight, and a 28-gauge with a 26-inch vent-ribbed barrel. The writer used his 12-gauge Remington 870 Express with a 20-inch smoothbore slug barrel, firing a "Foster" one-ounce slug, to drop an opening-morning Thumb 10-point on the spot. The buck had responded to calling, but surprised the writer (who was seated on the ground next to a tree) by approaching him from behind. The shot was accomplished at 10 yards when the buck closed his eyes while doing a "lip-curl." (Photo provided/Tom Lounsbury/Hearst Michigan) Show MoreShow Less
