Jones was stopped from retaliating back in 1965 by his manager.
He explained: "Gordon Mills said, 'That’s his sense of humour, don’t get (the wrong idea).' Which it was. And then we became friends later on. He was taking the mick, or taking the p**s. That was his sense of humour."
Sensing trouble brewing, Lennon's bandmate Paul McCartney had also tried to defuse the situation at the time.
Jones later added: "Paul McCartney said to me, 'If John Lennon made fun of a song, it means he likes it, because he wouldn’t make a comment on it if it didn’t strike him.'"
