Six world championships in the 49er skiff and a gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics have made them the crew to beat.
Add in a double America’s Cup triumphs with Team New Zealand where Burling has risen to be skipper, and they enjoy a profile that few Kiwi athletes can match.
With that comes expectations and the pair carry huge hopes every time they put a foot on a boat.
Those expectations undoubtedly carry through to their team mates with Burling and Tuke at the forefront of Yachting New Zealand’s high-performance program.
They didn’t deliver gold, but they did deliver the team’s first medal at an Enoshima regatta that will see the New Zealand sailing team fall short of their target of three medals.
