THE importance of education in encouraging healthy eating has been stressed by MPs in south Cumbria following the release of a report that suggested sugar and salt should be taxed.
An independent review of food, commissioned by the Government and led by businessman Henry Dimbleby, also recommended vegetables be prescribed by the NHS.
Barrow and Furness MP Simon Fell described the National Food Strategy as a 'very interesting read' and said: "We need a proper debate about the relative health impacts that taxing 'unhealthy' foods might bring, balanced with the cost that it will put on the average shop, and personal responsibility too.
