“The current estimate is $4.5m.”
While the Insurance Council has revealed there have been 3538 claims costing $43.8m filed so far across Canterbury for the weather event, Ratahi said the TDC would not be using insurance for the repairs.
The council would instead be calling on emergency funding with a significant portion, approximately $3m, coming from Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.
“In addition to the three seriously damaged bridges requiring full replacement, nine others have been identified as seriously damaged.
“These are on Canal Rd, Horsfall Rd, Hall Rd, Maslin Rd, Slip Panel Rd, Waitohi-Temuka Rd, and Winchester-Hanging Rock Rd and two bridges on Route 72 Winchester-Geraldine Road.”
