PAWTUCKET – Two Democrats and an independent candidate are taking a shot at the empty District 5 City Council seat, with local attorney and Clovis Gregor, 56, winning the endorsement from the Democratic 5th Ward Committee on Monday.
Fellow Democrat Ana Soares, 48, is also making an attempt at the seat left empty after the death of former Councilor Ama Amponsah, filing declaration papers by last Friday’s deadline.
The winner of a June 8 primary for the seat would face independent Frank Carter, of 260 Lonsdale Ave., who will turn 65 on May 25, according to his declaration papers.
Soares, of 234 Sayles Ave., is a native of Angola, Africa, and a resident of Pawtucket for 30 years, according to her papers.
