Three people — including a 20-year-old Massachusetts man — were hurt in two separate snowmobile accidents in New Hampshire over the weekend, authorities said.
At approximately 6 p.m. Saturday, New Hampshire Fish and Game officials were notified of a snowmobile accident on the Smith River in Wolfeboro. Heath Cowper, 41, of Wolfeboro, N.H., had been riding on the ice when he lost control, rolled the snowmobile, and was thrown approximately 30 feet into a large rock, officials said in a press release. Cowper suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. The cause of the accident is under investigation, “however speed and the lack of a helmet appear to be contributing factors,” Fish and Game officials said in the release.
