Officials in Coffey County say three people died in a boating accident on the Neosho River. It happened around 6:30 Saturday evening in the area of the Burlington City Dam.
The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks worked with Burlington police and Coffey County officials in responding to the accident. A family of two adults and two children were boating on the river, and as they approached the low-head dam the boat stalled. The driver lost control and everyone was thrown from the boat.
Officials said Wesley Sharp of Shawnee was rescued and taken to Burlington Hospital in stable condition. A woman identified as Maribel Moran and the couple’s two children, ages 3 and 5, were pronounced dead at the hospital.
