Three big universities receive $100m each for research grants

Three universities will get a total extra $311 million in research money from the federal government to make up for revenue lost from international students owing to the pandemic.
The University of NSW and Monash University will get $100 million extra each and the University of Melbourne will get an extra $111 million, making it the biggest single higher-education recipient of research funding.
The University of Melbourne will get $111 million taking it to total government research funding of $321 million.

In October the government said it would give the university sector an extra $1 billion – most of it new money – taking total government spending on research for 2021 to $3 billion.
