This section in Johnsonville – 78 Fraser Avenue – sat vacant and unused for 60 years. It recently sold for slightly more than $1 million.
Turn off State Highway 1 into Johnsonville, hook a sharp left onto Fraser Avenue, then follow the road back towards Broadmeadows. About a minute uphill is an undeveloped, unmarked 652-square-metre section, a patch of green amid dense suburbia.
Number 78 Fraser Avenue – “classic, central Johnsonville” according to one real estate agent – was bought by Henry and Maude Stephenson in 1961. That’s so long ago the purchase was made in pounds rather than dollars.
The land has sat unused ever since, sometimes overgrown with gorse. But not for much longer, perhaps. The section has just sold for $1.03 million.
