It’s the time of year when we yearn for warmth, crave a peppermint mocha hot toddy for the soul and celebrate our traditions, like taking the family to see the “Nutcracker” dressed in our holiday finest or attending a special holiday concert.
2020 has made it difficult to navigate this terrain, but The Manatee Players is working overtime to present a safe, socially distanced, fully masked opportunity to experience that spirit of the season with a production of “Winter Wonderettes.”
The show is a holiday-themed sequel to the smash off-Broadway hit “The Marvelous Wonderettes,” about a group of high school friends who formed a girl group singing the hits of the 1960s. Written and created by Roger Bean, this seasonal celebration finds the ladies entertaining at the annual Harper’s Hardware Holiday Party. In an energetic style, the girls use their talent and creative ingenuity to save the holiday party when Santa doesn’t show up, along the way singing ’60s versions of holiday classics such as “Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town,” “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Run, Rudolph, Run.”
