You only THOUGHT you knew the story of the 1979 Daytona 500 inside and out.
Yet there was Jeff Hammond in Cale Yarborough’s pits, watching as his driver settled himself into perfect position coming to the white flag and then listening to the track announcer as all Hell broke loose on the backstretch. Disappointed that he’d missed out on a win in NASCAR’s biggest race, Hammond and his teammates then heard the announcer excitedly telling of a fight that had broken out between Yarborough and the Allison brothers, Donnie and Bobby.
