With few exceptions, the nuclear energy policy proposals of the past several years can be characterized by a flawed philosophy whereby the U.S. taxpayer has the responsibility to support research, development, demonstration, commercialization, and continued operation of nuclear power plants and advanced reactor technologies. It is a welcome opportunity, then, to highlight a federal program that appropriately dedicates taxpayer resources to nuclear research and development (R&D).
