Nearly eight months ago, Edgar and Deshea Guzman took a paved parking lot and made it into an entertainment paradise.
The husband and wife are the visionaries behind The Lot—a performance and event venue that's changing the social landscape of downtown Shreveport.
Located at 400 Crockett St., the site served as the SporTran Bus Terminal until it was relocated in 2017. It left a void surrounding the downtown block. Often, the Guzmans rode their bikes through the area and admired the small building empty and the swooping overhead tents—though with some despair.
“Every time I would see this place I would (say), ‘Why is it nothing? Why has it been shut down for so many years? It’s a beautiful building. It could serve a different purpose,’” said Edgar Guzman.
