More than five million dogs and one million cats killed each year in Vietnam, and these haunting figures reflect the current alarming extent of dog and cat meat consumption and trade. According to a report by Four Paws, these numbers are five times higher than in Indonesia and 1.5 times higher than in Cambodia. This harrowing reality has made it a top goal for local animal welfare organisations to change people’s perceptions on the consumption of dog and cat meat and improving the welfare of these animals.
