Acting Commissioner Northern Uraia Rainima says all schools used as evacuation centres during super storm Yasa will be repaired and handed back to the Education Ministry by January 11.
School managers, however, say lack of manpower could delay the plan and even the start of classes on January 19.
“All schools used as evacuation centres have been cleared as our military engineers have moved in to repair the damage caused by the cyclone,” Mr Rainima said.
“We need to hand the schools back to the Ministry of Education by January 11 and that will happen as we prioritise school repairs.”
