I’m Goldie Blumenstyk, a senior writer at
The Chronicle covering innovation in and around academe. Here’s what I’m thinking about this week.
Five things to help cutting-edge programs succeed.
For many reasons — a “K-shaped recovery” that’s leaving people behind, an impending push for green-economy jobs, students’ greater hesitancy to enroll in higher education — colleges would be wise to pay particular attention to programs tied to cutting-edge fields right now. Done right, those programs could be the lifeblood of institutions and their communities. Done wrong — well, you don’t need me to outline the potential for political and financial backlash.
