Testing to begin on world’s longest subsea electricity cable between UK and Norway
The world’s longest subsea electricity cable will be turned on this week with testing to begin to allow countries to trade clean energy.
The €2bn (£1.7bn) North Sea Link will enable the exchange of power between the UK and Norway.
A joint venture between National Grid and Statnett in Norway, the 720km interconnector will officially begin operations in October.
It can carry 1.4Gw of power. Low voltage testing will start this week before ramping up to high voltage.
The interconnector will allow the UK to maximize the use of renewable energy and large hydropower networks in Norway.
