It's a temporary right that was permitted by Gov. Bill Lee via executive order as the coronavirus began to quickly spread last spring, and one that for now remains in place.
But with vaccines widely available across the state and as Republicans pursue policies to force schools to commit to in-person learning, some legislators are still pushing bills to allow county and city commissioners to continue to — quite literally — phone it in even after the pandemic.
While some bills pertaining to the issue have failed, two continue to move forward in the General Assembly, including one that would allow local elected officials two passes each year moving forward to participate in a meeting virtually.
