At the current pace, it will take several more months for the state to reach 50%.
"Vaccines have been saving lives for over a century," the senators wrote. "As a result, polio and smallpox have been eradicated and measles, mumps and rubella are rare."
They referred to those vaccines as "medical breakthroughs" and noted the current vaccines were developed using "the best medical technology available."
While the three pharmacists signed on — McNally, Haile, and Sen. Shane Reeves of Murfreesboro — the letter divides the physicians in the Senate Republican Caucus.
Sen. Richard Briggs of Knoxville supports it, while Sen. Joey Hensley, a Hohenwald physician who is on medical probation, did not lend his signature. Hensley sponsored legislation this year to take away the rights of businesses to enact health restrictions.
