SC for Ed has cancelled a May 17th protest due to "harassing and threatening messages."In a statement to their followers on Saturday, the working teachers group claims that groups with "extreme views about masking" are misrepresenting their protest as mask-related.This comes after Gov. Henry McMaster’s executive order lifting mask mandates in schools. Instead, the group says the event was meant to bring awareness to the continued mistreatment of South Carolina public school teachers. In announcing the protest last week, SC for Ed stated “the point is that was the last straw in a year where we’ve been treated horribly, and if we don’t stand up and say you have to make changes or you won’t have any teachers left.”The protest was set to take place in Columbia at the State House, the Governor's mansion and the SC Department of Education. There's no word on whether or not the protest will be rescheduled.
