A Caddo Parish teacher is facing simple battery charges after reportedly pushing a child to the ground.
Melody Harris Moffett, a first-grade teacher at Judson Elementary, was arrested on April 20. She is accused of assaulting a student at school.
“School should be a safe learning environment for our children and our children shouldn’t fear for their safety, especially by those we entrust with their educational development,” Breka Peoples said in a press release from The People’s Promise.
Moffett is accused of assaulting a 7-year-old child while during the school day, according to Shreveport police records.
“The district is aware of a staff member recently arrested following an incident on one of our elementary campuses,” Caddo Schools spokesperson Charnae McDonald said. “That employee has been placed on administrative leave while the matter is under investigation.
