Q: How can people tell if they have COVID-19 instead of a cold or flu?
Dr. Charles Thayer's (Morton Hospital chief medical officer) Answer: It's gonna be very difficult to tell the difference between people who are not very sick with COVID and people who just have the sniffles and have a cold. There are certain defining things that occur with COVID that do not occur with colds or flu, and one of them is loss of taste and smell. So if you have an illness and you feel like you have a cold and you've actually lost all taste and smell, it's very likely that you may have COVID. At the same time, sniffles, headache, difficulty with cough, deep breathing issues can be symptoms of flu and COVID. So always make sure that you contact your doctor and ask them for advice with what to do.
