Taking Stock: Sensex up 253 pts, Nifty above 22,450; BSE Midcap hits new high, Smallcap closes near record

At close, Sensex reached 73916 points, up by 0.34 percent, while Nifty closed at 22464 points, a 0.27 percent increase. BSE MidCap surged 1.2 percent, and SmallCap ended 1.4 percent higher.
