Take funding to expand Medicaid

Why won’t Gov. Ron DeSantis take the money? Why won’t he take it already?
No, we’re not talking about the estimated $10.2 billion in federal stimulus money that Florida is expected to receive from President Joe Biden’s recently passed $1.9 trillion COVID relief package.
Oh, no, don’t worry about that: DeSantis is so ready to snap up those bucks that he’s already recommended spending it on a broad range of priorities.
No, the federal money that Florida has yet to take — because DeSantis is slavishly trudging in the shortsighted footsteps of his immediate predecessor, U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, in refusing to accept them — are the billions of dollars that would flow into our state’s Medicaid program by simply expanding coverage to more uninsured Floridians.
