EDMONTON --
The long-awaited removal of the three-month ban for men who have sex with men donating blood has doctors weighing in after a recently deleted tweet by Canadian Blood Services.
The tweet posted Sunday at 8:22 a.m. said Canadian Blood Services intended to make a submission to Health Canada, by the end of 2021, to end the current three-month waiting period for gay men who seek to donate blood.
The tweet has since been deleted.
Dr. Kristopher Wells, associate professor and Canada research chair for public understanding of sexual and gender minority youth at MacEwan University, said removing the three-month waiting period is long overdue.
