The NSW government could reopen Sydney schools sooner if they are in areas with few or no cases, leaving room for a partial restart of classes by the end of the month.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian also confirmed Year 12 students would start getting vaccinated only from next week, raising teacher concerns that the vaccine will not have taken effect by the time thousands of students from Sydney hotspots return to class.

Asked where schools fit in with the state’s vaccination targets announced on Monday, Ms Berejiklian suggested some schools could open if there was little risk.
“In terms of schools going back, that depends on case numbers and rates of vaccination and also what the virus is doing,” she said.
