A 19-year-old woman from Somerset West, who had been hiking on the Half Collared Kingfisher Trail in Wilderness, was given medical treatment and rushed to hospital after suffering a medical condition on Sunday 17 January.
The incident occurred around 18:00, according to Mike Vonk, deputy station commander for NSRI Wilderness. He said the duty crew were activated following reports of a woman suspected to be unconscious, suffering a medical condition along the trail.
“An NSRI member was hiking on the trail with his family when a man ran past him, reporting he was going to fetch his boat to assist upstream of the Touw River, on the hiking trail that borders the river, where a female was reportedly unconscious with a medical condition,” Vonk related. “The NSRI member hiked down the trail to get cellphone reception to activate rescue resources.”
