Mrs. Jodie Walizer’s high school homeroom at Sugar Valley Rural Charter School released 70 Rainbow Fingerlings into Fishing Creek on May 5. Despite a rough start due to Covid sanitation of the classrooms, the class was able to successfully care for and raise the small trout to the point of release. When the students arrived at the stream, they began investigating to ensure they were releasing in a viable area. The students looked for Mayflies because their presence indicates the stream is clean and well oxygenated. This is the eleventh year Mrs. Walizer and her students have participated in the Trout in the Classroom Program. The Trout in the Classroom program was made possible through a partnership between the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) and the Pennsylvania Council of Trout Unlimited (PATU).
