Leslie Stephen Scarlett
TUCSON, AZ – Leslie Stephen Scarlett, a convicted felon, has been identified as the suspect in Sunday’s deadly shooting spree.
Tucson Police Chief Chris Magnus said the 35-year-old Scarlett has a criminal history. In 2007 he was convicted of attempted armed robbery. He was sentenced to six years in prison and was released in August 2013.
Magnus said Scarlett has a history of mental health issues.
Scarlett’s shooting spree began at approximately 3:45 p.m. at the Quincie Douglas Center at Silverlake Park. Scarlett approached an ambulance there that was responding to a unrelated medical call.
Scarlett shot the driver, a 20-year-old EMT, in the head. He is in the hospital in critical condition.
