In 2007, Ravi Jain had a chance to head to New Delhi to present a workshop. A recent graduate of the L’École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq physical program, the Toronto actor had been planning on heading home to start working on the stage. What emerged from the trip to India became the focus of Why Not Theatre’s A Brimful of Asha.
The play is billed as “a hilarious, awkward and true story of generation and culture clash.”
“Because of that opportunity, my parents tried to kill two birds with one stone and set about arranging a marriage,” said Jain. “What happened from that became the show that has been running since 2011, co-written and acted by me and my mother, Asha.”
