The Supreme Court transfers all proceedings before the Calcutta High Court in a case over fake certificates to itself. This comes after a controversy erupted over the remarks passed by a single-judge bench of the high court against a judge of a division bench. The Supreme Court stays the high court proceedings and verbally observes that it will deal with the matter "differently". The central government requests the Supreme Court to shift the entire proceedings of the case outside West Bengal for a hearing de-novo, with due regard to institutional integrity and the personalities involved.
