Sugar Hill Elementary School's Katie Blum named Gwinnett County Public Schools' Teacher of the Year

For Sugar Hill Elementary School second grade teacher Katie Blum, the desire to be a teacher goes way back.
In fact, as a little girl, she would play teacher and make family members pretend to be her students. It’s just something that has seemingly always been a part of her.
“I cannot remember a time I’ve ever not wanted to be a teacher,” Blum said. “My mom says I started playing school around when I was 3 so I’ve literally played school and wanted to be a teacher my whole life.”
Blum’s desire to teach culminated on Thursday night with Gwinnett County Public Schools announcing her as its 2021 district-wide Teacher of the Year during a special ceremony at the school system’s Instructional Support Center in Suwanee.
