Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has met with government officials to discuss plans to further develop the Suez Canal. The meeting examined an increase in the number of ships passing through the canal by 20% in the first quarter of 2023, generating revenues of around $2.3bn, and the highest daily transit rate in the canal's history. In other news from the country, the government announced a plan to develop the Furniture City in Damietta into an integrated industrial city, while the private sector is to be given paid leave on 17 April for Sham El-Nessim.
