Sudbury journalist, education leader passes away

Claire Pilon, a luminary of the francophone educational community in Sudbury, has passed away.
Pilon, who wrote a regular column for The Sudbury Star, died Dec. 16. She had been battling poor health for a number of years.

Recognized for her commitment to Sudbury’s francophone community, Pilon held for many years the position of school board trustee with the former Sudbury District Roman Catholic Separate School Board.
She was the first chair of the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario after it was created by the former Harris government. She held the position from 1998 to 2000.
