Study finds that mummification in Europe may be older than previously known

Mummification is the process of preserving the body after death by deliberately drying or embalming flesh. A recent discovery made at the hunter-gatherer burial sites in the Sado Valley in Portugal, dating to 8,000 years ago found that mummification of the dead probably seemed to be more common in prehistory than previously known.
