During Hanukkah, eighth grade students at Brauser Maimonides Academy in Fort Lauderdale lit menorahs in memory of the Jewish community in Northern Macedonia that perished during the Holocaust.
The students lit the menorahs in their homes while filmed on video in conjunction with a Holocaust project where they have learned about Macedonian Jewry.
The 1,000 Menorahs Project - A Light, Remembrance and Inclusion Project was launched by Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its Agency for International Development Cooperation in partnership with Macedonian organizations. The project symbolizes the number of candles for every person who perished from Macedonia during the Holocaust.
