Walkerbay firefighters conducted mop- up operations on Monday and Tuesday.
The Department of Environment, Forestry, and Fisheries’ (Deff) Working on Fire Programme (WOF) dispatched massive resources in one fire this week.
More than 60 firefighters from five teams, three aerial resources and four fire trucks were dispatched to assist the Overberg District Municipality, Deff and CapeNature in fire suppression efforts in Jagersvlakte, Grabouw Forest.
The Helderberg, Walkerbay, Grabouw Forestry Support, Hottentots Holland, and the visiting Hotshot teams from Newlands, conducted an aggressive mop-up operation on Monday and Tuesday (25 and 26 January).
Reinard Geldenhuys, fire chief of the Overberg District Municipality, said the fire was contained by Tuesday afternoon, but the area remained a hotspot for possible flare-ups.
