KUALA LUMPUR: Stop using unrecognised titles or be ready to face the consequences, says MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong.
The warning comes after several members of the public recently came forward claiming to have been cheated out of more than RM750,000 by three men using unrecognised "Datuk Seri" titles obtained abroad.
"Since the issue was highlighted last week, I had received many calls from those who got their titles from neighbouring countries such as Indonesia and the Philippines.
"They asked me for advice on what to do as they were unaware that it is illegal to use such titles," he told reporters at a press conference on Monday (March 15).
