Stewart Father's Day Pow Wow cancelled due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic
The Nevada Indian Commission announced on Wednesday it has canceled this year’s Stewart Father’s Day Pow Wow.
“Even though our medical experts and the scientists indicate that the current health crisis seems to be lessening, out of an abundance of caution, specifically for the safety of our elders, we again will cancel our annual pow wow,” said Stacey Montooth, executive director for the Nevada Indian Commission, in a statement. “We arrived at this consensus decision with input from our elders, commissioners, committee members and our staff.”
Since 2003, the three-day event typically attracted thousands to the former Stewart Indian School in Carson City. It featured colorfully dressed dancers, drum groups and spiritual singers. It also included arts, crafts and food vendors.
