Stains found on the car belonging to the man accused of the first-degree murder of his former partner, and some other items, were confirmed as blood, a Cornwall court heard Friday.
Brandon Smeltzer, 27, appeared before Judge Laurie Lacelle Friday as his trial reached the end of its third week. Smeltzer was arrested and charged after Emilie Maheu, 26, was reported missing on Oct. 11, 2018, and found dead two days later. Maheu was the mother of Smeltzer’s young daughter and had grown up in Alexandria. Smeltzer confessed to killing Maheu, and faces life imprisonment with no possibility of parole for 25 years if convicted of planning the murder.
