St. Joseph County is in early stages of working with Cass County on a mutually beneficial communications project.
The matter of constructing a new cellphone tower, to be shared by central dispatch departments in each county, was fielded by commissioners Wednesday during their executive committee meeting.
Dennis Brandenburg, director of St. Joseph County Central Dispatch, told commissioners that a coverage study following the agency’s transition to an 800-megahertz system showed several dead spots for pager coverage in areas within Mottville Township.
Subsequent conversations with Jennifer Robinson, Brandenburg’s counterpart in Cass County, said the corresponding area on the Cass County side of the boundary also has a history of inferior pager-signal reception.
