HEARD - WE COULD BE SEEING SOME FROST THIS WEEKEND. OUR BROOKE BUTLER SPOKE TO FARMERS TODAY TO SEE HOW THEY'RE PREPARING. IM AT OTTAWA FARMS IN CHATHAM COUNTY. YOU CAN SEE IM SURROUNDED BY A SEA OF WHITE. THESE ARE SHEETS THAT WERE SET UP TODAY IN DIRECT RESPONSE TO THAT POTENTIAL FOR FROST. FARM OWNER PETE WALLER TELLS US - THESE SHEETS WILL HELP PROTECT THE STRAWBERRIES UNDERNEATH - AS THEY CAN WITHSTAND TEMPERATURES OF UP TO 28 DEGREES. FARMERS SAY IF THE BUDS ARE IMPACTED... IT COULD BE DEVASTATING. 1:58 IF WE HAVE A FREEZE TONIGHT AND IF WE DON'T COVER UP THESE NEXT CROP OF BERRIES IT WILL FREEZE THAT BLOOM AND KILL THE BLOOM, A BLOOM OF BERRIES TAKES ABOUT 30 DAYS 2:09 FARMERS ARE ALSO BATTLING WINDY CONDITIONS. THEY SAY THEY MIGHT HAVE TO WET THEM TO FURTHER SECURE THEM. DESPITE THE WEATHER CONDITIONS - WE'RE TOLD PEOPLE ARE STILL INVITED TO COME HERE THIS SATURDAY - TO PICK SOME FRESH STRAWBERRI
