SEVIERVILLE â A Sevier County Sheriffâs deputy was trying to arrest a local man on drug charges filed through multiple sealed indictments Tuesday when he refused to surrender, leading to a two-hour standoff outside his home on Retreat Street.
The Sevier County Grand Jury returned presentments last month charging 32-year-old Matthew Eugene Dyke with three counts of sale of Schedule III drugs and three counts of sale of meth.
Presentments are indictments that were taken straight to the grand jury, meaning Dyke had not previously been charged with the crimes.
The deputy was actually trying to serve a separate, civil summons on Dyke at 1544 Retreat St. but during that process learned there were also indictments against him, Sevierville spokesman Bob Stahlke said.
